TRANSPORT AUTHORITY’S 2024/2025 LICENSING PERIOD HAS STARTED

Transport Authority says the 2024/2025 licencing period has started for all categories of public passenger vehicles and commercial carriers; and as part of the Authority’s digital transformation programme, will be emailing the Road Licences to its customers.   The Authority says the February 1, 2024 start of the Licensing Period is to facilitate the timely submission and processing of road licences and commercial carriers applications, which expire on March 31, 2024.  To complement this process, the Authority has been facilitating motor vehicle Inspection for public transportation since January 8, 2024.   The Authority is advising that application can be made at our Online Application portal at www.ta.org.jm for the following categories of Public Passenger Vehicle Licences and Commercial Carriers: ·         New and Renewal Contract Carriage, Express Carriage and Route Taxi licences; ·         Renewal Hackney Carriages; and ·         New and Renewal Commercial Carriers ·         Walk-in customers will be processed by our Customer Care Team The Transport Authority is reminding customers who conduct transactions at its offices, that the Authority no longer accepts cash payments at its locations. Customers may use any of the several payment facilities including paymaster, bill express, apply online or use debit and credit cards at the offices.    PPV operators and Commercial Carriers are urged to renew their road licences before March 31 and avoid the late payment penalty.   -30-

TRANSPORT AUTHORITY TO EXTEND DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ROAD LICENCE AND COMMERCIAL CARRIERS APPLICATIONS, AS IT ROLLS OUT MANDATORY ONLINE APPLICATIONS EFFECTIVE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 2020

Minister of Transport and Mining, Honourable Robert Montague, has directed the Transport Authority to extend the deadline for submission of PPV road licence and commercial carriers’ applications, waive the late fees up to May 29, 2020 and allow new applicants to submit Police Records up to October 14, 2020. These changes will take effect on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.Therefore, come April 15, 2020 public passenger vehicle road licence and commercial carriers’ applications must be completed on the Authority’s online application portal at www.ta.org.jm. To access the online application portal, customers must have an active email account and either credit, visa debit or prepaid credit cards to make payment. Additionally, new road licence applicants will be allowed up to six months (by October 14, 2020) to submit Police Records.Meanwhile, new and renewal Route Taxi licence applications will not attract any late fees up to the May 29, 2020 and these must be done through any of their respective approved Route Taxi Associations.Persons requiring support with their online application may contact the Authority’s Customer Centre at 1-888-991-5687 during the hours 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily and where necessary the customer care representative will recommend an appointment in office. TRANSPORT AUTHORITY TO COMMENCE MOTOR VEHICLE EXAMINATIONS ON JANUARY 13, 2020 TO FACILITATE PUBLIC PASSENGER VEHICLE OPERATORS AHEAD OF THE FEBRUARY 17, 2020 START OF THE LICENSING PERIOD.

Effective Monday, January 13, 2020, the Transport Authority will commence motor vehicle examinations in preparation for the renewal of road licences which expire on March 31, 2020. The early start of examinations is to facilitate the timely submission of road licence applications come the February 17, 2020 start of the 2020/21 Road Licencing Period.The early commencement of motor vehicle examination is part of the Authority’s thrust to provide convenient and efficient service to customers. Under this facility, licensees are not required to pay the motor vehicle examination fees upfront, as the fees will be collected upon submission of their applications for renewal of their road licences.The Authority is therefore reminding the owners of PPVs, that failure to complete the renewal process by Tuesday, March 31, 2020 means that their road licences would become invalid as of April 1, 2020.In the meantime, the Transport Authority is reminding customers that conduct transactions at its Head Office, that effective February 17, 2020, the Authority will no longer accept cash payments at this location. Customers may use any of the several payment facilities including paymaster, bill express, pay at the National Commercial Bank (NCB) using bank vouchers, apply online or use debit and credit cards at the office. Meanwhile, the Authority is reminding all new road licence applicants that they are required to have a tracking device installed on their vehicles as part of the requirement for the grant of the road licence. Effective Monday, February 17, 2020, the Transport Authority will commence acceptance of new and renewal applications for all categories of public passenger vehicles and commercial carriers; and for the first time will accept online applications for four categories of public transportation licences.The Authority says the February 17, 2020 start of the Licensing Period is to facilitate the timely submission and processing of road licence and commercial carriers applications which expire on March 31, 2020. To complement this process, the Authority has been facilitating motor vehicle examinations for public transportation since January 13, 2020. TRANSPORT AUTHORITY SUSPENDS LATE FEES FOR RENEWAL APPLICATIONS FOR FOURTEEN DAYS

The Transport Authority is suspending the implementation of late fees for renewal of public passenger vehicle (PPV) road licences and commercial carriers for fourteen days until April 14, 2020.The suspension follows a directive from the Minister of Transport and Mining, Hon. Robert Montague to delay the implementation of the late fees in light of current health concerns surrounding the COVID -19 Virus. Minister Montague says operators of public passenger vehicles and commercial carriers are being provided the additional days to re-licence their vehicles without the usual penalty in order to ease the pressure of these operators as they provide the essential service of public transportation to the nations’ people during this challenging period. All owners/operators of Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) and Commercial Carriers will therefore be required to pay late fees of $10,000.00 for the renewal applications submitted on April 15, 2020 and beyond.In the meantime, the Transport Authority is reminding licensees that they may utilize its Online Application portal at www.ta.org.jm to submit their applications once they have an active email account and a credit or visa debit card for payment.
